Like many of us, Michael has too many interests and too little time. Fortunately for us, he’s really focused on a lot of things when he’s at the office. As Chief Design Officer at Mad*Pow he leverages his background in interaction design, usability, and design strategy to lead a diverse team of talented experience designers through the process of creating engaging, interactive experiences. You might also call him “chief air traffic controller,” because his role is also to bring together various disciplines -- such as design research, content strategy, experience design, visual design, and development -- in an environment that emphasizes creativity, teamwork, and advocacy for the person who will use the end solution.
Michael keeps busy in the research and design management community, previously serving as past president of the local chapter of the User Experience Professional’s Association (UXPA), and contributing as a speaker and mentor for IxDA, Design Management Institute (DMI), CHI, and Web Development groups. He has an MS in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University Graduate School of Business, and a BA from the University of Michigan.
When he cuts out of the office he likes to really be out of the office: Playing golf, snowboarding, hiking, road biking, and wielding a wicked camera. Oh, down time? That’s when a collection of blue note jazz albums and his guitar get their workout, and he maintains his reputation as a true connoisseur of buffalo wings.
