At Mad*Pow, we’re all about passions, and giving back to the community is something everyone's very committed to. In addition to an awesome employee benefit of 5 paid volunteer days per year, Mad*Pow also has a Charitable Contributions Team that pairs with organizations in our communities. Each quarter, the team focuses on one organization in need.
Recently, our team concentrated on food pantries, which are hit hard in the summer - as children who are eligible for free breakfast and lunches during the school year are now without those meals. Many families are suddenly saddled with providing 10 extra meals a week for their children, which can put a huge burden on low income families and can often cause them to go unfed. In our effort to help, my Co–Chair, Tara Kennedy
, and I, decided to hold food drives at all 3 of our Mad*Pow offices; In Portsmouth we donated to the Seacoast Family Food Pantry
, in Boston; the Greater Boston Food Bank
, and in Louisville; the Portland Food Pantry
We encouraged our colleagues to collect only healthy foods. As a result, Mad*Pow collected an abundance of healthy, low in preservatives and organic foods like apple sauce, pretzels, and Annie’s macaroni and cheese. Each office also donated $200 to each designated food pantry so they can purchase utensils, toiletries, and other necessities that are often not donated by the public.

This effort was a great way to rally support for hunger activism causes that Mad*Pow’s employees are fully committed to, myself included. I often speak at conferences about the importance of good food and its impact on health. You can check out my slides from Mad*Pow’s healthcare conference, HxRefacored.
